the view from here

we are preparing for vacation- leaving here, at what appears to be the tail end of fall. we are hoping to set the clocks back by a couple of weeks and catch the peak of autumn in maine.
that snow line is getting a little too close for comfort! this place is about 10 miles from home.

autumn in maine is one of my favorite things. i havent been back home in 3 years.
you might say we are "wicked excited!"
dont know if i'll blog from the road, but will probably post some photos of our journey along the way.
in the mean time, keep up the good fight and cheers!

tina does sarah

its like a car wreck. i cant look away. im sorry.

we actually stayed up last night to see this.
obama was supposed to make an appearance as well, but canceled.
i cant remember the last time i watched SNL...

and did you hear about the anti-palin rally that was held yesterday in anchorage? no, it hasnt made main stream media, but fellow bloggers mudflats, laura and alaskareal are making some gains in changing that. they have all posted photos and details so you all can see that that 80% approval rating may be yet another media spin.
alaskareal also has some very disheartening news about a remote village in dire straights as we march toward winter here.
take heart america, there are more like minded, sane women and men up here than i thought!

rockbama!

remember that little problem we were having with our obama signs being vandalized/stolen?

well, here's what happens when you dont play nice with me. (click to enlarge)
sorry neighbor, you had to go and spoil it for everyone else who now must endure our left-wing, looney views every time they drive in or out of the hood.
we'll be forever shunned.
oh darn.
this sucker (4x8ft) is hung about 10 feet up in the birch trees and is guarded 24/7 by a crazy liberal hockey mom who doesnt need lipstick.

thanks to the roguewave for the brilliant idea!

falling..

its here.
crisp mornings, dark skies, (finally) at night again. the leaves in the moss covered woods smell of decomposing, musty earth.

in other places ive lived in my lifetime, fall creeps in slowly, allowing time to digest the change. offering golden, daytime sunshine to balance cool evenings.

here, we experienced a cold, bleak summer, and fall has come charging in seemingly overnight. the leaves have turned yellow in great swaths, encompassing whole branches in hours.
the fireweed is brilliant red.
the berries are now mostly gone, the few rotting sweet ones left hanging will likely end up in the belly of a bear.
the bear are up against the clock now and soon will leave to settle in for the long winter.
we are trying to wrap our heads around what will be the next 7 months, as winter in alaska is not a commitment for the faint of heart.

nice gun(s)

anyone who knows me is aware, ive never really been able to tread lightly.....

(i am well aware that this is a fake photo of the pit bull herself, but you have to admit, its funny, right?)

every man, woman and child in alaska is about to receive $3269 through the permanent dividend fund and from a one-time energy relief bill that ms. palin passed thru just before embarking on this ridiculous journey.

so thank you, sarah!

some might call this bribe money.
me, im calling it get-the-hell-out-of-alaska-and-go-someplace-where-people-havent-
caught-palinitis-cash.
just for holiday, a little break from republican ground zero.
