hello rocky

so jeff and i came together oh so many years ago, each with dog.

mine was a devoted lab mix who was, admittedly, a mama's boy. he was sweet and protective and a joy to have around.
my life will forever be changed because porter was a part of it.

jeff's dog was a loving, aloof chow mix with fur as red /orange as it comes, and who was smart and attentive. he even let us get away with calling him graham cracker chow-chow biscuit...
again, we are better people because we loved him.

we are dog people...

we've been without both of our beloved animals now going on a year and a half.

in the deep, dark, depths of winter, we started looking at the alaska dog and puppy rescue website.
you know, just dipping the toes in, looking at doggie mug shots to see if our hearts were ready.

today, jeff came home with this handsome boy.

my heart keeps reminding me how hard it was to say good by to those devoted 4-legged friends. luckily, my head remembered the alfred lord tennyson poem;

"tis better to have love and lost,
then never to have loved at all."

i guess we're back in the game.

ah, great stuff. I remember Porter and Graham at the river house, they were always up to something. 3rd pic w/ Jaden is a classic. congrats on the new addition to the family! KK

Hi guys, this is Mike. I was Rocky's previous owner. We got him from the Palmer Rescue a couple years ago. Unfortunately our family situation forced us to part ways with him. I am very happy he did find such a nice and loving home. We had a couple St Bernard's raised up from puppies. I remember how hard it was when they passed on. It was just about as hard to let go of Rocky, but we knew with his disposition he had a good chance of meeting up with the right people. If you haven't already, make him sit and ask him for a "shake". Then tell him to "give me the other one". He was so proud when he learned that one, he got to where when meeting new people thats all he wanted to do was shake their hand. Good luck to you all.

Oh yeah - he's Golden Lab and Whippet mix :-) And he does like to run - and he's pretty good at it too :-)

Hi Mike,
thank you for leaving us a comment. rocky has settled in nicely and we are all totally in love. he is such a sweet and loving guy and yes, he showed us his shake tricks right away. he goes to bed with my 6 year old every night, then comes up after he's asleep and sleeps in our room. he loves to run and hike, but is also so well behaved, we feel incredibly lucky. we are big believers in timing, and things working out just the way they were meant to. he will have a good life here with us. thank you.
