sunday

summer is upon us here in the north and i've been neglecting the blog.
we've had lots of changes with jaden now out of school - i've been getting a daily dose of "how many more days till i go to first grade mommy?" in his mind alone, it will be a long summer.

i am officially unemployed, by choice. which, is making me question my sanity.

i am hopeful that i will be starting a position, a dreamy, wonderful position, at a large hospital in anchorage sometime in july. all of the cards, eggs or whatever metaphor you like haven't yet landed in place, in the basket as it were, so at this point, im just riding the wave... relying on faith. a trait im not traditionally very good at. really. i suck at this kind of thing. im a planner. julie the cruise director..... a title i wear with pride.

in the mean time, we are finishing up lots of loose ends here at our lovely little place outside of palmer so that we can try to sell it and move on into the thriving metropolis known as los anchorage.
in my mind, this puts me much closer to the airport(: and to seward, and girdwood- there are many ways of looking at it.
the biggest being no commute in the winter when the glenn highway is a skating rink, roller derby style.

i am having a visitor next week. YIPPEE for visitors! so far our summer tour schedule is sadly empty. (HINT!)
sheila will be making her 2nd visit to our northern paradise and arrives under the watchful eye of the midnite sun on wednesday.
i hope to have some great adventures while she is here to share here on this space.
in the mean time, i will be thinking about my entry in this years haiku contest held by the anchorage press.
with categories such as:
  • erosion
  • the bear out back
  • roller derby
  • ethics, schmethics
  • one for the tourists
  • abstinence, alaska style
  • midnight sun insomnia
  • in the blueberry patch
how can you go wrong?
heh, heh, heh!

moab

last weekend the landscape changed pretty dramatically for me as i journeyed to moab utah and spent some big time under the sun chasing lizards and looking for that ever elusive amazing photo.

it was great to recharge the vitamin d tank, which at present time is registering full-up!

i traveled from anchorage to salt lake city utah, where i took a canada regional jet to grand junction colorado. there, i met up with my good friend leslie.
we road tripped from there in her stylin' audi (i got to drive the stylin' audi and now my poor, dependable subaru doesn't seem quite so great) 112 miles to moab.

the fantastic falbos secured us a rockin camp site at goose island campground and had cold tecates on hand as we pulled in.

later that evening the morris clan arrived in their fantastic new westy. i now have audi and westy envy.
this is not good....for my husband.

a day was spent checking out arches national park in the 90 degree, blissfully dry heat, while the morris and falbos went biking. we regrouped for dinner and mayhem.
there was plenty of mayhem.

the next day, we all hiked the north mill creek trail which was the most perfect moab hike ever- according to me anyhow- the hike was kid friendly- not too long and it followed the creek up to a beautiful pool with small waterfall action. just up the trail from the swimming hole, without any fanfare whatsoever, were these petroglyphs.
all in all, pretty amazing stuff.

its taken me a while to sort through the 500+ pictures and whittle things down to a manageable 50 or so. (ahh, the beauty of digital)
settling back in to some delightful, albeit, cooler alaskan weather now. summer is in full swing. life is good.
when are you coming to visit?

please stand by....

i made it back from a wonderful journey to the desert in moab utah- but i've been working since getting off the plane.
i've got lots of photos to sort through and post, hopefully i'll have some time this weekend.
in the mean time, enjoy this.

i believe

in the strength and power of timing....
in things turning out as they should.
in fate.

so, to adoptive moms and birth moms-
to step moms and god moms-
to all those who wish they were moms and those who are grateful they are not-
happy mothers day to all.

and to my mom, i miss you.

sprung

what is left of the the snow on the mountain peaks is rapidly melting, and the leaves are busting out everywhere.

we have just enjoyed the most magnificent stretch of weather since moving here. we've enjoyed several days of bluebird skies and sun- what an amazing feeling it is to actually feel hot here in AK.

it is a bit cooler today, but still no complaints from me who finally feels thawed out.
even the onslaught of seasonal allergies isn't getting me down.

we have been moving forward on house projects, wrapping up kindergarten and watching our son marvel at turning 6.

all sorts of chapters seem to be coming to an end and new ones are opening up.
looks like we've got some new adventures ahead, but my superstitious nature wont let me divulge just yet.

jade and i watched a field of friendly sand hill cranes and canadian geese poking around together today.
who knew they were friends?

life is good.
