solstice weekend

it is here i would like to be posting photos of smiling faces pulling out any of the 12 halibut that were caught this weekend. but i cant do that.
you see, that would have required me to look up out of the puke bucket, or move away from the side of the boat long enough to work my camera, and that my dear friends, was impossible.

i was the lucky one who suffered for 6 or so hours, as our friend's trusty hewes craft, rocked and rolled over the waves outside of resurrection bay.
the only beauty here was that the cure for motion sickness is reputable and reliable.
upon disembarking, i felt like a new woman.

the day before our fishing disaster (my disaster, really.) we attended a beautiful and fitting memorial service.
our ride out to thumb cove was serene, the clouds parted, the sun shone and for many fleeting moments you could actually feel the peace and solace of the world.
jade and i are leaving tonite for a visit to colorado. i am looking forward to blistering weather, but i promise to use sunscreen.
we'll catch up with colorado snaps soon.

hatcher hike

yesterday, jade and i headed up to hatcher pass where the road is now open up to independence mine.

one of our favorite places to pack some pb&j sandwiches and take a stroll through the spongy, moss carpeted bowl is the trail that heads to gold cord lake.

but that hike was well populated so we decided to take the advice of our friends sharon and howie and head up the stream and over the lip of the bowl into the next valley to behold the view.

we had a great time and even managed to see and touch some genuine redoubt ash.
the wildflowers are simply divine right now and especially those delicate amazingly blue forget-me-nots.
dont you just love these?

terrific house- amazing location fsbo

okay, so here is the "soft" sell.
i'm giving out the link we've created to go with the craigslist post, in our attempt to sell our home here in the valley.
the time has come for us to move into the big thriving metropolis of los anchorage and join the other 3 or 4 liberals who live in this state.
it's lonely up here!

no, really, its just that a job change is in the wings and it seems ridiculous for both of us to be away from home, commuting back and forth with our child here in the valley.
plus, anchorage is closer to the airport, to seward and to girdwood- all good things.

so head on over to that link down below and spread the word if you know anyone who might be looking for a lovely home in a great neighborhood in the mat-su valley.

we've worked our butts off updating this house and the place looks amazing. (if i do say so myself, and i do.)

the kitchen is dreamy, the bamboo feels oh, so good on the toes and the wood stove we added last fall kept me alive during that particularly freezing cold winter. (oh how i love you, little wood stove.)

its a very comfortable house, and in a most fabulous neighborhood right on the doorstep of hatcher pass.
really.
i wouldn't lie.
this is it.
the place you've been looking for.

we love it here, and finding a replacement in anchorage is bound to be down-right painful

- but change is the only constant, right?

click here for all the details
-and thanks in advance for spreading the word.

visiting

i just spent 5 lovely days with a dear gf from colorado. this was sheila's second ak visit- so we took it a little slower this time, not trying to cram everything in.

we had a great time hanging out, solving the problems of the world.we have had some remarkable weather here- i know, the glacier photos dont look so summer-ish- but overall we've had better weather the past few weeks than we've seen in all our time here combined.

this would be a lovely time for a visit, dontcha think?
