BOO!

remember that 90's radio band toad the wet sprocket?
last evening we had the pleasure of hearing glen phillips and his acoustic guitar at our little local coffee house. im sure a few of you can hum a few bars of "walk on the ocean" or, "fall down".

Jump back, got to get out of here
Been too long this time
Jump back, got to get out of here
When will we fall down?

She hates her life

She hates her skin
She even hates her friends
Tries to hold on to all the reputations she can't mend
And there's some chance that we could fail
But the last time someone was always there for bail
When will we fall down?

it was really quite lovely and he seems like such a nice chap, we were tempted to bring him home with us and cook him dinner. i wanted to bring the camera and snap a few photos, but i've never been comfortable with that small-crowd-photo-snapping kind of thing. it seems intrusive to me.

winter is here full swing here, after all it is halloween and from what the locals tell us, no halloween would be complete without frigid temperatures and snow. we've got both.
we've also got some resident moose who seem to be right at home on our hill. they had the place to themselves last winter and now are probably wondering who said we might live here too. so far we are all getting along, but we need to stay mindful of graham, our old man pooch who doesnt hear or see so well now.

the trick or treat excitement is building. i dont think we'll get away with hiding the candy after jade collects his loot this year.

the joy of sox

i've just returned from a wonderful weekend in colorado and here i am reveling in the red sox victory tonight. what a traitor i am, living there for so many years and rooting for the sox. as any new englander can attest, once a fan, always a fan.

i had an amazing time in beautiful colorado. 70 degree days with the exception of one.
sunny, sunny skies. i drank it up, the sun and the martinis that is. never had a martini before. i do like olives.

i miss all you people and had a blast seeing each and every one of you. trip highlights include that chilly bike ride at midnight, shopping like a professional, dancing to the old time sounds of rodney james and the blue flames, hanging at the poudre, last call in denver while listening to widespread panic, that decadent dinner in boulder and getting locked in at elliots at 2:30 am.
geeze, you'd think i was 25.
the beautiful boy pictured here is my godson. i was there when he was born and as you can see, he loves me. (:

winter has arrived at my alaskan home. snowpacked roads and moose in the yard. what a difference a day makes.

oh, we heard david grisman is playing at the beartooth theater next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yippee for us!!!!!!!

heavy sigh

i am an uninspired blogger. kind of like mid october, feels to me right now- uninspiring.

i am reading eat pray love and enjoying it very much. its rekindling tiny little sparks of desire to find some way to live outside of the states for a year or so, learning a new language and way of life. i want to live where buildings are ancient and you can nap without guilt and you get 5 weeks of holiday each year.

its been a crazy couple of weeks at the clinic with my colleague on vacation. im feeling a tiny bit crispy- nothing a trip back home to see all my favorite witches wont cure. its slated to be a sunny 71 degrees on saturday and i am so in need of this vitamin d and girlfriend fix.
hoooray for stacked up airline miles, for spontaneity and for the ability to do it just because i want to.

seattle

fly- by- the- seat- of -your- pants.
thats what i say.

when the alaskan airlines website showed indeed there was one mileage ticket to seattle for a mere $5 handling fee and, the said flight was scheduled to depart with perfect timing to hop a car to the home of a dear friend from high school, with still more time to catch a nice dinner and gossip about our recent 20th (god, yes 20th) high school reunion, and then get on down to the beautiful paramount theatre to see one of my favorite bands, widespread panic, well... what was a girl to do?? i ask you, what could i have done but pack my toothbrush and go?

30 hours later, here i am back at home with my family, tired and satisfied!

aint life grand?

fleeting

this photo was taken as the sun rose on one of the few nice days we've had lately.
its been drizzly and cool with temperatures in the mid 40s since then. you can see the termination dust like frosting on government peak.

i am ready. bring it on.
i think by this time last year we had already had our first snow.

most of the leaves have fallen over the past few days. there are still a stubborn few hanging on. our house, hidden from view all summer, now sticks out boldly on the hill.

the fam and i went on a bike ride through the neighborhood the other night and as we rode by a neighbors house someone yelled out "watch out for the moose!"
now thats something you don't hear every day.
up ahead of us was mama moose and her babe standing right in the middle of the road. needless to say, we opted to ride the other way.

the snow line is creeping down the mountains surrounding this beautiful valley. time to dust off the skis and skates.
like it or not, winters coming.
